The Department of Sociology and Criminology & Law provides multiple graduate programs, including Ph.D. options in Sociology and Criminology, Law and Society, MA degrees in both fields, and a combined MA in Criminology/JD program. Additionally, the department collaborates with the School of Natural Resources and Environment to offer Ph.D. or MA degrees in Interdisciplinary Ecology. Exceptional undergraduate students can pursue accelerated BA/MA degrees in Sociology or Criminology, Law and Society.
These graduate programs train students for academic research and teaching roles or for practical research positions outside academia. They cultivate theoretical knowledge, research skills, and professional capabilities. The curriculum is structured to deliver essential theory courses early in the program, followed by quantitative methods and advanced statistics training to build foundational research skills. Sociology programs additionally mandate qualitative methods coursework.
