The Child Life program integrates Child Life studies within the Human Development and Family Science (HDFS) framework. The curriculum features hands-on training in medical facilities and healthcare environments. These courses align with the standards set by the Association of Child Life Professionals and thoroughly equip students for professional roles.
This program trains future Certified Child Life Specialists for hospital and healthcare careers. Participants explore both childhood/family development topics and Child Life theory, application, and research. The program blends Human Development and Family Science courses with specialized Child Life content. Students gain practical experience by implementing theories in clinical settings. The structured coursework fulfills Association of Child Life Professionals requirements, prepares students for internships, and covers material for the certification examination.

Qualification Requirements
Students with a Bachelor's degree in HDFS or a related area can apply for admission to our Master's program in Child Life. Strong candidates for the Child Life program will have a strong background in child development (including at least two college courses), as well as substantial experience working directly with children and families. Evidence of working with children and families in health care settings (such as hospitals or camps for children with medical needs) is preferred. If you have completed a practicum in child life, please have your practicum supervisor serve as one of the three recommenders on your application.
We do not require the GRE for application to this program, and will not review your GRE scores even if you include them in your application.
