The University of Texas at Austin stands out with its campus-wide interdisciplinary graduate program in Women's and Gender Studies. Faculty members from 18 different colleges and schools across the university bring diverse expertise to this program. Students benefit from an extensive selection of graduate courses that showcase innovative research from various viewpoints, creating exceptional opportunities for cross-disciplinary exploration at the graduate level. The faculty excels in numerous areas including African-American studies, cultural analysis, diaspora research, ethnic studies, feminist theory, health and social services, global and post-colonial feminisms, masculinity studies, media analysis, performance theory, popular culture, and policy studies.
The Center for Women's & Gender Studies provides a Master of Arts degree, along with two combined master's programs in collaboration with the School of Information and the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs, plus a graduate portfolio option.
Students can earn a master's degree in Women's and Gender Studies through the Center. This two-year program equips graduates to continue toward a Ph.D in Women's and Gender Studies or other disciplines. The degree also offers strong academic preparation for careers and advanced training in arts, business, community organizations, education, healthcare, policy development, social services, and technology fields.
Students must have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in the United States or a comparable degree from a foreign academic institution. A grade point average of at least 3.00 in upper-division (junior- and senior-level) coursework and in any graduate work already completed.
The minimum scores considered acceptable for admission by the Graduate School are:
TOEFL: 79 on the Internet-based test (iBT)
IELTS: An overall band of 6.5 on the Academic Examination
