The Caribbean Studies Specialization within the Master of Arts in Latin American Studies (MALAS) program equips students with interdisciplinary, comparative, and scholarly methodologies for exploring Caribbean Studies and Caribbean Diaspora Studies. This track readies graduates for academic, research, and professional pursuits in Caribbean studies and languages.
The Center for Latin American Studies provides these graduate offerings: An interdisciplinary Master of Arts in Latin American Studies, A graduate certificate in Latin American studies, plus a specialized graduate certificate and concentration in Tropical Conservation and Development. The Latin American studies graduate curriculum draws from over 250 courses with regional focus, spanning more than 35 academic departments across participating colleges.
The MALAS program's distinguished reputation stems from vibrant exchanges among faculty and students representing varied viewpoints, experiences, and identities. Learners work alongside 180 core and affiliated faculty from humanities, sciences, and professional disciplines to craft personalized study plans incorporating university-wide course offerings. MALAS alumni build careers in education, research institutes, international bodies, government entities, and private sector organizations throughout the Americas, with many advancing to doctoral programs.
