The BFA painting program introduces fundamental painting principles through engaging methods, showcasing diverse contemporary techniques to spark students' creativity. It encourages deep comprehension of these concepts while pushing students to craft their unique visual language and build a repertoire of imagery connected to their personal narratives. The painting course progression begins at the 2000-level, examining color theory, spatial relationships, and light/shadow techniques through both academic study and hands-on application. Student projects balance guided exercises with self-directed initiatives. At the 3000-level, learners expand their horizons with life drawing sessions, avant-garde painting techniques, sophisticated 2-D composition studies, and sequential investigations of self-designed concepts. This rigorous year-long immersion cultivates a painter's mindset. The capstone 4000-level course provides exclusive studio space for seniors to refine the analytical and creative abilities essential for developing their distinctive artistic perspective.
