The Bachelor of Music (B.M.) in Applied Music prepares students for professional careers as musicians or college-level music educators. This specialized program focuses on mastering a primary instrument while fostering academic excellence and professional standards in music. Admission requires an audition on one of the approved instruments, including woodwinds, brass, strings, percussion, piano, classical guitar, harp, or voice.
The curriculum features intensive training in music theory, ear training, history, piano proficiency, and private lessons, along with advanced electives like counterpoint, keyboard harmony, jazz theory, and specialized seminars. Students expand their repertoire through advanced music literature classes and ensemble performances. Performance experiences range from large ensembles and opera productions to chamber music, competitions, summer festivals, and solo recitals.
Upon completing the program, graduates will: Exhibit advanced technical mastery and artistic interpretation in saxophone performances, grounded in theoretical, historical, and cultural understanding. Apply research methodologies, analytical skills, and technological proficiency to effectively engage diverse audiences. Foster professional collaborations within both musical institutions and community organizations.
