Art History provides students with analytical perspectives on how artistic and cultural traditions have evolved throughout history and around the globe. We enhance visual literacy, refine writing proficiency, and ignite creativity through encounters with artworks, artifacts, and architectural wonders that have inspired devotion, fueled revolutions, and provoked powerful emotions. Nearby institutions like the UD Library, Museums and Press serve as hands-on learning spaces where students cultivate their skills as art critics and museum professionals. Our curriculum covers diverse artistic traditions including American (encompassing Native American, African American and Latin American), European, African, Asian, and Islamic art, along with material culture and architectural studies. Students can pursue interdisciplinary paths through double majors or joint programs combining Art History with fields like Art Conservation, Anthropology, English, History, and various Languages, Literatures & Cultures. By exploring humanity's creative legacy, we inspire students to engage as global citizens.
