The University of Delaware's Anthropology Department investigates human nature and our species' diverse experiences across cultures and historical periods. We integrate methodologies from social sciences, humanities, and natural sciences in our approach. Students can pursue an undergraduate Anthropology degree, an Anthropology Education track for future teachers, or choose from three focused concentrations: 1) Healthcare and Cultural Practices, 2) Global Justice and Social Challenges, 3) Technological Innovation and Cultural Artifacts.
Our program introduces students to anthropology's core disciplines: cultural studies, biological anthropology, archaeology, and practical applications. This comprehensive foundation prepares graduates for diverse career paths and advanced studies. Alumni have conducted global community research for international organizations, examined ancient civilizations for heritage conservation roles, and investigated human biology for health and environmental careers. Our unique focus on integrating cultural and biological perspectives with evolutionary and historical contexts particularly benefits students aiming for healthcare or sustainability fields.
The department fosters close faculty collaboration through small seminars and hands-on learning experiences. Students engage with museum collections, regional cultural sites, and local communities to enhance their coursework.
