The Plan A Master of Science program mandates a laboratory research thesis, ideal for those aiming for a Ph.D. or research-focused careers, developed in collaboration with advisors. Both M.S. and Ph.D. candidates in Animal Science customize their coursework, with sample programs available in specialties like Animal Genetics, Regenerative Biology, Nutrition, Food Microbiology, Safety, and Physiology.

Qualification Requirements

1. Your Personal Statement Of Interest (Refer below to Domestic or International Checklists listed under Graduate School Requirements)
2. Three (3) Letters of Recommendation - Recommenders should upload their letters online.
Cannot include letter from graduate faculty advisor of choice on the application.

3. Application must indicate preferred faculty advisor. Applicants should contact their preferred advisor before submitting their application to discuss whether the advisor currently is accepting graduate students.

4. Applicants who apply to the Animal Science graduate program will need to choose an area of interest. The MS and PhD programs offer the following areas of interest: Animal Genetics and Genomics, Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology, Animal Physiology, Meat Science, and Food Microbiology and Safety. Applicants will have a chance to explain their preferred area of interest in their Personal Statement.

You must hold a baccalaureate degree or its equivalent from a regionally accredited college or university.
A cumulative GPA for their most recent degree of 3.0 or higher for the entire degree
Minimum overall scores of 79 (Internet-based test – iBT/ iBT Home Edition), 550 (Old Paper-based test – PBT) or 22/30 on each of the Listening, Reading, and Writing sections (''New'' Paper-based test- PBT) or higher on the TOEFL test. (TOEFL Essentials is not accepted.)
Personal Statement
A minimum overall score of 6.5 or higher on the IELTS Academic Test
A minimum overall score of 53 or higher on the PTE Test.
