The department occasionally admits students to pursue a terminal MA in Anthropology, particularly when their academic focus aligns with faculty specialties and their professional goals necessitate a master's degree without requiring a Ph.D. The UConn Anthropology Department provides coursework, laboratory and field training, personalized mentorship, and research experiences to foster students' development as anthropologists, scholars, and individuals.
Our faculty and students engage with both traditional and emerging anthropological disciplines, such as:
Archaeology
Critical biocultural anthropology
Cultural anthropology
Environmental anthropology
Evolution, cognition, and culture
Human rights
Medical anthropology
Students define their specialization area(s) and collaborate with their primary advisor to create a customized course plan. They also acquire practical experience through:
Departmental research facilities
Cross-disciplinary partnerships with other academic units
Faculty-directed anthropological and archaeological field programs
Domestic and international fieldwork and internship possibilities
