The Leadership and Education Policy specialization equips Ph.D. candidates for careers in academia, higher education administration, or leadership and research roles across educational institutions, government bodies, research organizations, corporations, and non-profits.
This curriculum mandates 12 credits in the LEP specialization, 15 credits in the LLEP foundational courses, 9 research credits, and 15 dissertation credits. Students are advised to select electives in coordination with their faculty advisor. Completion of General Examination prerequisites is required after finishing at least three-quarters of the coursework. The program culminates with successful defense of both a dissertation proposal and final dissertation to earn the doctoral degree.

Qualification Requirements

Submit a 2-3 page (double-spaced, 12-point font) written personal statement. In your statement address your:
Reasons for pursuing the degree
Background, experiences, and/or qualifications for the program and concentration to which you are applying
Research interests
Professional goals, and how the LLEP Ph.D. degree relates to those goals
Submit a professional or academic writing sample (no more than 10 pages). If applicable, include a brief explanation of how this work relates to your research interests. The writing sample should demonstrate your scholarly thinking, academic or research writing skills, and ability to synthesize information. Examples of appropriate writing samples include, but are not limited to, undergraduate or graduate thesis, research paper, or literature review. If your original writing sample exceeds 10 pages, please submit an excerpt
Submit a current resume or curriculum vitae
Complete GRE exams and submit scores. The University of Connecticut GRE score reporting code is 3915.
The LLEP program does not use a cut-off score for the GREs. Your application will be reviewed holistically and GRE scores will be considered as one of many components of your application

A cumulative GPA for their most recent degree of 3.0 or higher for the entire degree
Minimum overall scores of 79 (Internet-based test – iBT/ iBT Home Edition), 550 (Old Paper-based test – PBT) or 22/30 on each of the Listening, Reading, and Writing sections (''New'' Paper-based test- PBT) or higher on the TOEFL test. (TOEFL Essentials is not accepted.)
Personal Statement
A minimum overall score of 6.5 or higher on the IELTS Academic Test
A minimum overall score of 53 or higher on the PTE Test.
