Our English Ph.D. program offers interdisciplinary studies across diverse research fields, guidance from leading faculty members, teaching opportunities in First-Year Writing and advanced courses, and specialized assistance for academic and non-academic career placement.
Following core coursework, doctoral candidates collaborate with their advisory teams to create customized exam reading lists that enhance their expertise in chosen disciplines for both teaching and scholarly pursuits. Candidates then develop dissertation projects aligned with their academic and career aspirations—whether traditional text-based dissertations, digital-native works, or creative/translation projects accompanied by critical analysis.

Bachelor's degree recipients receive six years of teaching assistantship funding, while those entering with a Master's in English or Rhetoric and Composition qualify for five years of financial support through teaching positions.
