The Department of Anthropology provides a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program in Anthropology. The majority of admitted graduate students follow the Ph.D. track. Those joining without a master's degree in anthropology or a related field (as determined by the Graduate Committee) must meet extra criteria for the combined MA/Ph.D. pathway. UConn's Anthropology Department focuses on graduate training in specialized areas aligned with faculty expertise:
Archaeology
Critical biocultural anthropology
Cultural anthropology
Environmental anthropology
Evolution, cognition, and culture
Human rights
Medical anthropology
Students define their specialization(s) and collaborate with their primary advisor to create a customized study plan. This plan should align with the student's academic goals while meeting all specified degree requirements.
