The Neag School of Education provides two pathways to teacher certification: the combined Bachelor's/Master's (IB/M) Teacher Education Program and the Teacher Certification Program for College Graduates (TCPCG). Details about TCPCG can be found in the Graduate Catalog. The school has established an innovative teacher preparation framework that combines structured academic inquiry, extensive field experience, liberal arts education, and teaching methodology within a collaborative setting. This model fosters partnerships between public schools, professional development institutions, Neag School departments, and University faculty across disciplines.
To receive the University of Connecticut's certification endorsement, candidates must complete the five-year Integrated Bachelor's/Master's Teacher Education Program. This includes two years of foundational studies in general education and a chosen major before entering the Neag School. Students then undertake two years of specialized coursework in their major alongside professional education training as undergraduates, followed by a final year of graduate-level education courses leading to either a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction or Educational Psychology. Successful completion of Connecticut's Praxis Core exams and subject area assessments is also required.
