Moving past Balzac and baguettes, UConn's French and Francophone Studies program has evolved. While maintaining its deep appreciation for France's rich literary and intellectual heritage dating back to medieval times, our curriculum has adapted to recent disciplinary shifts: greater emphasis on cultural context in literary studies, enhanced interdisciplinary methods, recognition of Francophone cultures beyond mainland France, and addressing the needs of today's globalized world.

Our mission is to transform French studies at UConn into a comprehensive journey - from immersive language learning to modern theatrical performances, from exploring French literary classics in Storrs to engaging in cross-cultural dialogues in Dakar, from business French translation projects to Sorbonne studies and Parisian living.

This program serves diverse students: French majors and dual-degree seekers across Arts, Sciences, and Humanities; future educators at all levels; and those pursuing careers in global business or nonprofit sectors. Students may join at any stage, whether starting with beginner language courses or diving directly into advanced studies upon enrollment.
