Our Master of Arts program offers a 30-credit (10-course) generalist curriculum aimed at advancing students' intellectual and professional development in communication studies and practice. Participants may concentrate solely on communication theory and research, or incorporate applied skills (primarily through elective coursework). The Communication Department fosters a collaborative environment of learners, researchers, and educators dedicated to our collective vision: "developing communication skills to build a fairer and more compassionate society."
Our dynamic academic community is devoted to delivering a practical, experiential, and theoretically rigorous graduate program that enhances students' communication expertise. This 33-credit generalist degree program promotes intellectual and professional advancement through comprehensive study, critical analysis, and application of effective communication strategies. Our distinguished faculty includes nationally and internationally renowned experts, while our diverse student body represents numerous countries worldwide.
Completion of a bachelor's or master's degree from an accredited college or university.
Statement of purpose (cover letter). The statement should be 2-3 double spaced typed pages and should highlight your past experience and your specific interest in the program.
A cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.25 or above.
International students need either TOEFL or IELTS scores at or above the following levels: a TOEFL score of 80 with particular sub score minimums (15 in Reading, 15 in Listening, 19 in Speaking, and 20 in Writing) or IELTS scores of 6.5 with 6.0 or higher in each subsection. To be considered for Teaching Assistant positions, international graduate students must meet the score requirements above, and have a Speaking sub score of 26 (TOEFL) or 7.0 (IELTS).
