The Department of Integrative Biology provides both a Master of Science (MS) in Biology and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Integrative and Systems Biology. Our faculty come from diverse departments across campus and include community partners. The University of Colorado Denver's PhD program in Integrative and Systems Biology is an interdisciplinary, dual-campus initiative that enables students to investigate complex biological questions through computational, laboratory, and field-based methods. With over 40 faculty members, students can engage in a wide array of projects spanning all biological scales, from ecology and environmental microbiology to biochemistry, developmental biology, and neuroscience. Students select either an integrative biology track, examining problems across biological levels, or a systems biology track, focusing on the interconnected components of biological systems.
This PhD program emphasizes research. Prospective students must identify a specialization area matching a faculty member's research focus. Faculty research interests are detailed in undergraduate profiles on the Department of Integrative Biology website (clas.ucdenver.edu/biology/). Applicants should reach out to potential faculty advisors to confirm availability in their research teams.
