The CSB Ph.D. program consists of two key elements: fundamental core courses and specialized elective options. The core curriculum establishes essential grounding in biological sciences and computational biology principles. Students select advanced electives to tailor their academic path, working closely with the CSB Ph.D. Graduate Committee and their thesis supervisor. This approach offers students flexibility in shaping their research focus while maintaining structured mentorship to guarantee comprehensive, rigorous education.
To be admitted as a regular graduate student, an applicant must have earned a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a college, university, or technical school of acceptable standing. Students in their final year of undergraduate study may be admitted on the condition that their bachelor’s degree is awarded before they enroll at MIT.
