Chemistry explores the composition of substances and how they change, spanning from atomic and subatomic levels to complex biological molecules essential for life. Known as the central science, it intersects with various STEM fields such as physics, biology, medicine, environmental studies, geology, mathematics, materials science, and technology. Pursuing a Chemistry or Biochemistry degree opens doors to diverse, impactful careers in scientific research and application. Today's chemistry integrates computational modeling and experimental techniques that are safer and more sustainable than traditional methods. Studying chemistry also cultivates analytical reasoning abilities applicable across professions. A Bachelor of Science in Chemistry is particularly distinguished when applying to graduate programs in pharmacy, medicine, nursing, dentistry, medical technology, and related fields. CU-Denver chemistry alumni have successfully entered medical, dental, and pharmacy schools, pursued doctoral studies in chemistry and biomedical sciences, and built rewarding careers in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and medical technology sectors.
The combined BS/MS program enables undergraduates engaged in research to earn up to 12 credits toward a Master's in Chemistry while finishing their bachelor's degree. This accelerated pathway allows students to obtain an MS in Chemistry just one year after completing their BS in Chemistry or Biochemistry.
