CU Classics provides a Ph.D. program in Classical Languages and Literature, emphasizing proficiency in ancient languages while allowing students to benefit from faculty expertise across diverse specializations. Once language competency is achieved during the M.A. phase, students engage in independent research through seminars, leading to dissertation work.
The curriculum features studies of key ancient writers and literary forms, Greek and Latin prose writing, and specialized advanced seminars. Additionally, the department excels in areas like ancient historical writing, late antiquity, philosophical studies, and Greco-Roman archaeology.
Applicants must:
Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, or have done work equivalent to that required for such a degree.
Show promise of ability to pursue advanced study and research, as judged by the student’s scholastic record.
Have adequate preparation to enter graduate study in the chosen field. Have at least a 2.75 (2.00=C) undergraduate grade point average.
All international applicants are required to meet a minimum standard of English proficiency.
