The Music Education Department's seasoned instructors are dedicated to equipping students for thriving careers in K-12 music education. Through coursework covering instructional strategies and learning fundamentals, hands-on teaching practice in K-12 settings, and participation in specialized initiatives (such as the Middle School Ensemble Program, Summer Music Academy, and NAfME Collegiate Chapter), students gain the expertise, competencies, and real-world experience essential for effective music instruction. For two decades, the program has maintained an exceptional graduate employment rate approaching 100%.
Recognizing the diverse demands and possibilities of K-12 music teaching, the undergraduate curriculum balances focused training with broad preparation. Bachelor of Music Education candidates must develop comprehensive understanding of full music curricula while mastering specialized techniques needed to excel as general music teachers or directors of choral, orchestral, or band programs.
