The department provides a Bachelor of Arts (BA) program in Spanish, with three specialization choices: language and literature, Spanish and Portuguese language and culture, or international Spanish for professional fields. The professional track incorporates subjects like business, economics, and mathematics.
Spanish program students initially develop writing and speaking skills to engage in analytical conversations and compose critical papers. They subsequently advance to interpreting complex Spanish texts capable of supporting literary critique. Beyond language skills, the curriculum covers the evolution of Spanish and Spanish-American literature, introducing students to prominent Hispanic authors. Literary studies also include examining the societal and historical backgrounds that shaped these creative traditions.
