The Spanish and Portuguese Major employs an interdisciplinary perspective to examine the historical similarities, differences, interrelations, and breaks that have influenced global Hispanic and Lusophone societies from early modern times to today, spanning Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas. This dual major provides exceptional adaptability and scope for studying the languages, literature, and traditions of nearly 700 million Spanish and Portuguese speakers globally.
The curriculum encompasses subjects from various disciplines such as linguistics, transatlantic studies, and creative writing, while delivering advanced instruction in both languages. Students in this program participate in cooperative learning and research initiatives that cultivate a comparative and socially-sensitive understanding of diverse populations.
