Founded in 1982, the University of Cincinnati's Genetic Counseling Graduate Program ranks among the nation's longest-running programs. Learners gain from its distinctive collaboration with Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, ranked among America's top three pediatric healthcare facilities.
The curriculum encompasses academic studies, practical clinical training, and research components. Enrolled students typically complete about 15 credit hours each term across four semesters. From their initial semester onward, they engage in direct patient care through clinical rotations across various specialties like prenatal, pediatric, and adult genetics. Upon completing the program, graduates will have served as lead genetic counselors for a minimum of 50 cases, frequently exceeding 100 cases. Students also undertake a thesis research project, resulting in a publication-ready academic paper.
