Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) administer anesthesia for various medical procedures including surgeries, childbirth, and trauma cases, covering everything from complex neurosurgery to routine deliveries. These highly skilled professionals operate with significant independence and accountability, reflecting their advanced practice status through competitive compensation.
Founded in 1945, the University of Cincinnati's Nurse Anesthesia program holds distinction as the nation's fourth oldest and ranks 22nd nationally according to U.S. News & World Report. Learners benefit from guidance by 15 specialized classroom and simulation instructors, plus over 80 clinical educators. The program provides diverse training opportunities at nearby healthcare facilities (many within walking distance), featuring a top-tier trauma center, specialized maternity care unit, a leading children's hospital, and numerous surgical centers and community hospitals.
Our program's faculty are recognized speakers at regional, national, and global conferences, while actively participating in professional organizations through board memberships and committee work. They cultivate a collaborative learning atmosphere and motivate students to engage in leadership opportunities through AANA involvement, conference attendance, and research presentations.
