Our Doctor of Nursing Practice - Nurse Anesthesia (DNP-NA) program equips you for comprehensive nurse anesthesia practice across various clinical environments, including hospitals, outpatient surgery centers, and physician offices. Guided by seasoned practitioners and leading nurse researchers, our DNP-NA integrates cutting-edge science with real-world applications. The program faculty—many of whom are alumni—are practicing nurse anesthetists dedicated to advancing your education and professional growth. Under the mentorship of skilled nurse anesthetists and anesthesiologists, you'll develop critical thinking abilities for both independent and team-based clinical decisions. You'll refine your techniques in our advanced simulation center, mastering procedures such as administering regional anesthetics, operating fiber optic intubation devices, inserting central venous and pulmonary artery catheters, placing chest tubes, utilizing ultrasound guidance, performing needle cricothyroidotomies, and positioning double-lumen endotracheal tubes. Additionally, you'll encounter scenarios spanning from routine challenges to uncommon situations.
Applicant must have completion of BSN program
A strong command of the English language is necessary for successful study at Penn. Applicants whose families do not speak English at home, or applicants who have not attended a high school or secondary school where the primary language of instruction is English, are asked to take the TOEFL, the Test of English as a Foreign Language, administered by the Educational Testing Service. In the event the TOEFL is not readily accessible, Penn will accept results from the IELTS, the International English Language Testing System.
The DNP-NA program starts summer session. The Application for summer 2021 will be available July 1 through November 1, 2019. Decision notifications will occur mid-April.
