The European studies program is an academic initiative led by faculty within UC's College of Arts and Sciences (A&S), offering comprehensive exploration of Europe's evolving identity - including its rich history, diverse languages, and complex cultural, political, economic, and social structures. This interdisciplinary program provides both graduate-level coursework and an undergraduate certificate option.
Established in 2000 through a $150,000 grant from the Charles Phelps Taft Memorial Fund with additional support from university leadership, European studies (EUST) has grown into a vibrant academic community. Faculty from various departments including Asian, East European and German Studies (AEEG), Romance and Arabic Languages and Literatures (RALL), History, Geography, Political Science, and other Europe-focused disciplines have collaborated to build a successful program that has secured prestigious funding from organizations like the Ohio Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
