The University of Cincinnati's Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education equips graduates to teach students in grades 7-12 as certified, highly skilled educators. Our program provides hands-on teaching opportunities in diverse urban schools, employing evidence-based instructional methods to support every student's learning needs. Secondary education majors focus on one primary subject area: English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Integrated Science, or Physics.
The integrated science track with a Life Science/Biology concentration qualifies graduates to teach all science subjects in Ohio's 7th through 12th grade classrooms. Those choosing the Life Science/Biology path study zoology, genetics, ecology, and specialized biology courses, building expertise to teach modern biological theories, lab techniques, and current scientific topics like climate science and bioethics. These future educators learn to design lessons that establish core scientific knowledge, facilitate hands-on experiments and problem-solving activities, and promote teamwork for engineering and design challenges.
