The University of Cincinnati's Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education equips graduates with the qualifications and licensure needed to teach students in grades 7 through 12 at junior and senior high schools. Our program provides hands-on teaching opportunities in diverse urban environments, employing evidence-based instructional methods to support every student's learning needs. Secondary education majors focus on one primary subject area: Integrated English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, or Physics.
Those pursuing an integrated science license with a chemistry concentration will be qualified to teach all science subjects for grades 7-12 in Ohio. Chemistry-focused students complete coursework in general and organic chemistry, plus either physical or biochemical chemistry, building specialized knowledge for teaching modern chemical principles and lab techniques while exploring current scientific challenges like climate change. These future educators learn to design lessons that establish core scientific understanding, facilitate hands-on experiments and problem-solving activities, and promote teamwork for engineering and design projects.
