Respiratory Care involves assessing, managing, and treating patients with breathing or heart-lung conditions. Working under physician supervision, respiratory therapists need expertise in various aspects of care, including bedside pulmonary treatment, operating life-support equipment, conducting diagnostic tests, providing rehabilitation services, and managing chronic respiratory conditions. They work with diverse patient populations, from newborns with underdeveloped lungs to older adults with lung diseases.
Upon completing the program, students receive an Associate of Applied Science degree and qualify to take the National Board for Respiratory Care examination to become Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRT). Students can also seek a provisional license to practice in Ohio after finishing their first year of study successfully.
