Studying Modern Hebrew Language and Literature demands comprehensive understanding of both classical and contemporary Hebrew texts, along with proficiency in at least one historical phase of the language. Qualification Requirements

Transcripts from all previously attended colleges and universities. At least three letters of recommendation submitted by persons able to describe your academic achievements and promise. A statement of purpose, which should describe the intellectual issues and historical/linguistic/archaeological questions you hope to explore, as well as your skills and preparation for undertaking graduate studies at the University of Chicago. A writing sample of approximately 20 pages. This could be an undergraduate thesis, a research paper, or a section of an MA thesis that best demonstrates your critical thinking and scholarly writing. Please include correctly formatted footnotes and bibliographies. GRE scores less than five years old. The NELC admission committee does not stipulate a minimum score. The Division of the Humanities does not have minimum required GRE scores or GPA to be considered for admissions. Average GRE scores and GPA vary from department to department, so it is best to contact individual departments TOEFL - The minimum required score for the TOEFL is 104 overall, with 4 sub scores of 26 each. IELTS - Minimum required scores in the IELTS are an overall score of 7, with sub scores of 7 each. (Note: students are required to take the Academic Reading/Writing test within IELTS, not the General Training Reading/Writing test).
