The CCAM brings together faculty from various departments within the University of Chicago's physical and biological sciences divisions, with a central team from statistics, mathematics, and computer science. Several faculty members also have affiliations with the Toyota Technological Institute (TTIC), Argonne National Lab, and the James Franck Institute. Their research spans computation, applied mathematics, statistics, data science, and scientific mathematical modeling. By the conclusion of their third year, every Ph.D. student must secure a dissertation advisor and, in collaboration with them, form a thesis committee of no fewer than three faculty members, including the advisor. A minimum of two committee members must belong to the Committee on Computational and Applied Mathematics. Students must submit a signed CAM form detailing their committee composition for approval by the CCAM Director and file it with the CAM student affairs administrator before Spring Quarter ends in their third year. The committee's makeup can be modified at any time with mutual agreement, provided the advisor remains included and at least two members continue to represent the Committee on Computational and Applied Mathematics. Any adjustments require submitting a revised, fully completed, and signed form to the CAM student affairs administrator.
