Chemistry focuses on studying matter's preparation, composition, and structure, along with the equilibrium and kinetic principles guiding its changes. The BA and BS chemistry programs establish a strong grounding in the three main areas: inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry. Analytical chemistry, frequently viewed as a distinct field, is also integrated into the curriculum. Both programs explore experimental and theoretical approaches while highlighting their interconnectedness. While both degrees ready students for chemistry careers, the BS provides a more rigorous academic path. The BA delivers comprehensive chemistry education while allowing greater flexibility for electives and interdisciplinary pursuits like biochemistry, biophysics, chemical physics, geochemistry, premedical studies, and education. Students earning advanced placement through exams may explore a four-year dual-degree option leading to simultaneous BS and MS degrees in chemistry.
