The Public Policy Studies program at UChicago enables students to engage in cross-disciplinary exploration of both domestic and global policy challenges. Core faculty expertise spans economics, political science, and sociology, with coursework focused on applying these disciplines to practical policy situations.
The BA curriculum in Public Policy Studies aims to familiarize students with policy analysis and execution, provide quantitative and economic analytical skills, develop policy research capabilities, and allow specialization in specific policy domains. Students can concentrate on either domestic or international policy topics. Those focusing on domestic issues can choose from exceptional course options in Political Science, Economics, and Sociology, specializing in areas like urban development, healthcare systems, educational policy, or examining how labor markets, family structures, and societal attitudes affect different socioeconomic and racial populations. Additionally, students may focus on policy implementation through courses covering public sector economics, organizational behavior, and institutional structures.
