Philosophy spans diverse historical eras and academic domains. The Bachelor of Arts in philosophy aims to introduce students to foundational texts across various branches of the field while developing their analytical reasoning skills. Alongside the traditional major, the department provides two specialized paths. The intensive track caters to high-achieving students seeking in-depth exploration of philosophical works and debates through small seminar settings. The philosophy and allied fields option allows students to combine philosophical study with another academic discipline. Detailed descriptions of all three programs appear in the following section. Students from other departments can pursue a Philosophy minor. During their junior year Winter Quarter, all majors must consult with the undergraduate studies director's assistant to evaluate their academic progress and consider senior thesis opportunities.
