Students opting for a dual major in Creative Writing and English Language and Literature can apply a maximum of four courses to both programs. Typically, these four courses cover the Literature requirements, though occasionally a Creative Writing course may substitute one (with approval from the Director of Undergraduate Studies). The two Research Background Electives needed for the Creative Writing major must be completed outside the English Language and Literature department. Those solely majoring in English Language and Literature may include up to four Creative Writing courses as electives without special permission. However, dual majors in both fields must adhere to the four-course limit, meaning any additional eligible Creative Writing courses can only count toward the English major.
