The English major equips students to examine and understand literary works and other texts, situating them within historical, theoretical, and artistic frameworks. Students learn to assess arguments based on their logical structure and persuasive techniques while honing their written and verbal communication skills. As they cultivate these competencies, students are encouraged to find their unique analytical and creative perspectives by mastering the organization of intricate content, engaging diverse audiences, and comprehending language as a medium. Aligned with liberal arts principles, the English major addresses society's growing demand for citizens adept in critical thinking and effective communication. Universal Tracking (uTrack) serves as an academic progress system that assists students in maintaining timely degree completion. To stay on course, students must fulfill specific benchmarks each semester, known as milestones, which involve passing designated courses and/or achieving minimum GPA standards. uTrack regulations apply exclusively to full-time students pursuing degree programs.
