UC Santa Cruz provides a one-year Master of Arts in Theater Arts designed to equip students for professional success across various disciplines including interactive media, performance, stage design, directing, dramaturgy, arts administration, choreography, technical theater, and stage management. This M.A. program also serves as a stepping stone for advanced graduate studies like M.F.A. or Ph.D. programs, with alumni consistently gaining admission to top-tier terminal degree programs.
Rather than specializing in a single theater discipline, the program fosters a comprehensive exploration of performance before students concentrate on a culminating capstone project that pushes their creative and academic limits. Past projects have encompassed both practical and research-based work. Blending rigorous academics with hands-on artistic training, the curriculum promotes interdisciplinary collaboration and innovative approaches to performance.
Student must have a four-year bachelor's degree at an English-speaking institution.
