The MA/Ph.D. program is designed for exceptional bachelor's degree holders demonstrating strong aptitude for advanced academic work. Candidates first earn their Master's degree within two years before potentially continuing to doctoral studies (by invitation). Following this transition, students complete another year of coursework prior to achieving candidacy status. This intensive, combined curriculum merges both M.A. and Ph.D. requirements, tailored specifically for high-achieving scholars. Regular meetings with the Graduate Advisor or Program Assistant are essential to ensure all academic milestones are met successfully.
Candidates for admission to the Ph.D. program must hold a M.A. or M.F.A. degree from UC Santa Barbara or another accredited institution.
