The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Choreography stands as one of three undergraduate degree choices. Each May, the department stages Physical Graffiti, a performance featuring undergraduate choreography. Dance majors who have finished the initial Choreography course (Dance 60A) may submit their work for consideration. Additionally, undergraduates organize and direct their own production called Bare Bones. Quarterly informal showcases offer further platforms for student-created dance pieces.
MFA candidates present their choreographic works in two main performances: New Slate (December) and Dance Escape (April). Many graduate students also elect to showcase their thesis projects during shared spring concerts in their second year. Their creative expressions extend beyond traditional stages, appearing in site-specific installations, video projects, technological experiments, and studio presentations.
Our innovative environment benefits from faculty members who create for professional dance companies worldwide. These instructors also contribute original pieces to Dance Visions, our yearly production featuring both graduate and undergraduate performers. This concert frequently includes works by visiting choreographers, enriching our program's artistic diversity.
