Philosophy cultivates precise and methodical thinking patterns. The philosophy major strengthens critical analysis abilities, making it valuable for numerous professions demanding such skills or as broad liberal arts education. Two specialized tracks cater to diverse student goals and mirror philosophy's dual focus. (1) The Core Philosophy track provides comprehensive philosophical education, ideal for developing reasoning capabilities, achieving undergraduate mastery, or preparing for advanced study. (2) The Ethics and Public Policy track examines societal moral dilemmas and professional obligations, tailored for future lawyers, public servants, healthcare professionals, and others.
Philosophy graduates considering California teaching certification should promptly reach out to the Graduate School of Education's credential advisor.
Undeclared majors should meet with the department's undergraduate advisor. The department has two faculty advisors and one staff advisor authorized to handle curriculum adjustments and special requests.
