Philosophy examines fundamental questions concerning ethics, social philosophy, metaphysics, epistemology, and modern life philosophies. Particular emphasis is placed on cultivating logical reasoning and building coherent arguments. The degree curriculum equips students with essential knowledge for advancing to higher education in philosophy and its various specialized areas. Additionally, the program enhances analytical skills and the evaluation of philosophical viewpoints. Students gain a solid foundation in philosophical concepts, theories, and methods through the core coursework. The Associate in Arts in Philosophy for Transfer degree facilitates smooth transition to CSU philosophy programs.
To obtain an Associate in Arts in Philosophy for Transfer degree, students must complete 60 transferable semester units following either the IGETC or CSU GE breadth requirements, including an 18-unit major. A minimum 2.0 GPA in all CSU-transferable courses is required, with all major courses completed at a C grade or higher. Those pursuing this transfer degree are exempt from additional local graduation requirements.
