The Dance B.A. program focuses on performance and choreography while offering a well-rounded liberal arts education. This degree path enables students to explore subjects beyond dance, opening doors to careers in dance therapy, arts administration, dance history, or teaching. Within the Theater and Dance Department, students thrive in a vibrant learning atmosphere dedicated to fostering creative expression and analytical skills. The department aims to prepare performers, choreographers, designers, directors, and writers for professional careers while offering comprehensive education through theatrical and dance mediums. Graduate students also receive specialized training for academic and teaching roles.

Students enjoy numerous chances to engage in performances and workshops across four dedicated spaces. Annually, the department stages 5 main theater productions (from classical works to LAUNCH PAD premieres of new plays), 3 major dance performances featuring the resident Santa Barbara Dance Theater company, and numerous smaller-scale theater and dance presentations. Alongside faculty mentorship, students regularly collaborate with visiting professional artists and scholars who enrich the program throughout the academic year.
