Anthropology explores humanity from multiple perspectives: biological, sociocultural, and historical. The UCSB anthropology program has three primary objectives: (1) to equip students for graduate studies in anthropology; (2) to prepare students for careers in education or social services; and (3) to offer foundational behavioral knowledge for students pursuing broader studies in biological or social sciences. The department provides B.A. degrees with specializations in Archaeology, Biological Anthropology, and Cultural Anthropology, plus a general Anthropology B.A. Students can declare the major after finishing two anthropology courses, with an optional minor available. A minimum 2.0 GPA is required, with all major courses completed for letter grades.
