The Structural Engineering Department at UC San Diego provides an interdisciplinary program spanning various engineering fields, including civil, geotechnical, mechanical, aerospace, biological, and marine/offshore engineering. The curriculum emphasizes structural design and analysis, structural materials, computational mechanics, and solid mechanics. This cross-disciplinary approach enables students to choose from diverse graduate courses and pursue varied career paths in engineering. To earn a master's degree, students must complete forty-eight units of coursework. Under the M.S. Comprehensive Examination Plan, all forty-eight units must come from regular courses (twelve courses total). For both M.S. plans, students must complete at least two course sequences from designated focus areas, with each sequence comprising three related courses in the same specialization.
