Bioengineering is a multidisciplinary field that integrates concepts and techniques from traditional engineering disciplines like mechanical, materials, electrical, and chemical engineering to solve challenges in biology and medicine. This field holds growing significance in healthcare, contributing to everything from physiological research to biotech innovations and healthcare system enhancements. Given its expansive scope, bioeducation demands a solid grounding in both engineering fundamentals and biological sciences. Additionally, the department provides a specialized BS in Bioengineering: Biotechnology, designed to equip students for roles in the biotech sector or advanced academic pursuits. This program builds on core engineering principles while focusing on biochemical processes, covering essential areas such as biochemistry, metabolic pathways, reaction kinetics, biological transport systems, bioreactor design, separation techniques, tissue engineering, and cellular biology. Such comprehensive training enables graduates to apply engineering and physicochemical concepts to molecular and cellular biology, ultimately advancing medical solutions.
