This program offers two specialized paths. The Biotechnology path equips students for advanced studies or professional roles in biotechnology and molecular biology across healthcare, industry, agriculture, and other fields. The Medical Technology path readies students for clinical training and California's Clinical Laboratory Science licensing exam, or for Public Health Microbiology certification. Both paths require consultation with designated faculty advisors. Aligned with the College of Science and Mathematics' mission, the Biology Department fosters scientific literacy, prepares graduates for postgraduate studies, cultivates future leaders in science and education, trains skilled K-12 science educators, and develops professionals for biomedical fields including medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, and pharmacy.
The Biology Department commits to advancing diversity, inclusion, and equity in science, addressing historical imbalances by amplifying underrepresented voices and embracing diverse scientific viewpoints. Through education, research, and community engagement, the department implements structural reforms to create a more accessible, secure, and inclusive scientific environment for everyone.
