The Gender and Sexuality Studies Department brings together over 170 students, faculty, and staff committed to examining feminist theory, global cultures, and political systems through both scholarly study and practical engagement. Our curriculum explores intersections of gender and sexuality with race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, historical contexts, research methodologies, ecological concerns, popular media, and beyond. Through degree programs and hands-on internships, we equip students to create meaningful change in society.
Sustainability involves striving for an equitable, thriving planet for current and future generations. Our program employs a social justice lens to examine ecological, social, and economic challenges, particularly how climate change disproportionately affects various communities.
As a sustainability studies major, you will:

develop expertise in feminist frameworks emphasizing intersectional analysis, collaborative dialogue, and global relational perspectives
engage in immersive, experiential learning opportunities
gain professional preparation for fields including healthcare, government, policy reform, education, and sustainability-focused activism
complete internships with environmental groups, health organizations, and other sustainability-oriented institutions
We particularly encourage transfers from Natural and Agricultural Sciences with strong scientific backgrounds seeking interdisciplinary sustainability education.
