Turkic studies focuses on the languages and literary works of Turkey and related regions. The diverse Turkic language family, which includes Turkish, Uzbek, Tatar, and about 35 other tongues, serves as the native language for approximately 170 million speakers, with an additional 200 million using them as secondary languages. These languages are predominantly found across Eastern Europe, Central Asia, North Asia, and regions stretching from Iran to the Arctic. While all Turkic languages share fundamental similarities in sound systems, word formation, and sentence structure, prolonged contact with other languages has altered some of their features. Contemporary Turkic varieties often incorporate loanwords from Persian and Indo-Iranian sources. Similarly, Turkic literary traditions have absorbed influences from Persian and Arabic writings while maintaining distinct folk traditions that reflect each ethnic group's unique cultural perspectives.
