The objective is to enhance awareness and comprehension of languages and cultures beyond English by cultivating foreign language abilities in oral communication, writing, reading, listening, and cultural awareness. The Department of Languages and Literatures, in collaboration with the Division of Health Sciences, has introduced a new interdisciplinary major in Spanish for Health Professions. This program merges existing courses from the College of Arts and Letters and the Division of Health Sciences to offer an adaptable, blended degree aimed at improving graduate employability and addressing the healthcare demands of our state, region, and nation. Spanish fluency is frequently cited as a preferred qualification for applicants to nearly all U.S. medical programs. The Spanish for Health Professions major aims to boost students' competitiveness when pursuing healthcare careers or advanced health profession studies after graduation.
